HobbyCon 2014

This event was held on 13th - 14th December 2014 at Likas Sport Complex, Kota Kinabalu. It was my first time attending and cosplaying at this annually ACG (Anime, Comic and Games) event. Of course, it was such an eye-opener for the first timer, like me. As I walk around the place, I was captivated by the cosplayers with their costumes. I was so happy! 

I always thought that the cosplay event is only held in overseas countries but I was wrong. There is local organizer who has passion and interest in this area and gathered all with the similar hobby in this event. 

A lot activities is conducted in this event i.e. cosplay and game competition, musical performance and talks. To my amazed, I saw Elsa (Frozen) standing on the stage winning the cosplay solo competition! Arrrggghh...too bad I do not get the chance to see the skit performance as I arriving late on the first day of the event T.T

PART 1: The First Encounter

“Arrrrgggggghhhhhh…………..! I hate you all!!!” Said the red-haired girl.

She ran downhill, passed the playground and then stopped by the river. Slowly she walked alongside the river, kneeling down and saw her mirrored self on the clear water surface. The tears on her big rounded eyes were still flowing on her cheeks. But then she wiped the tears and calmed herself down. She took a long deep breath and exhaled it. The winds softly blew her small petite body and her long red hair. Her name is Kushina. She had just moved here and she did not know anyone besides her old relative cousins.

“HUHHHHH…………..” Kushina heavily sighed.

She had been picking up a fight with her classmates on the very first day of school.

“It’s not my fault. They are the one who have made me angry.” She talked to herself.

Kushina is an orphan girl. She had just lost her parents last month and is now living with her cousin. The other student teased Kushina as they knew that she did not have father and mother. Being a hot-tempered girl, Kushina screamed out loud to them and fought.

“You’re a DEMON!!Red-Haired DEMON!!”

Said a boy to Kushina and that have made her felt so irritated and left the morning class session after beating the boy into pulp. And yet, here she is…sat by the riverside looking at her pitied-self.

“I wish mom and dad were still alive…” She monologues. Her eyes dampen again.  

“Arrrgggh! Stupid! Stupid! They are all stupid!” She keeps murmuring herself.

She cannot stop thinking about how her classmates talking bad about her. She tried very hard to forget, so…she lay down and closed her eyes. The sound of the river flows and the scream of cicadas surrounding the meadow can be clearly heard across the riverside. After a few minutes, she opened her eyes and looked up to the bright sky.

“What a wonderful world.” She started smiling. Just when she tried to close her eyes back something hard hit her head from above.

“OOUCHH!!!That hurts!” A ball hits her forehead.

She quickly stood up, picked up the ball and angrily shouted, 

“Hey, watch out! I’m not a goalkeeper!”  

She stared at a group of boys that were playing football at a spacious area point near the riverside. A boy with a good-looking face and yellow spiky hair ran towards Kushina to pick up the ball.

“O. Sorry about that. My bad.”

Part 2: The man called Minato

Tonight feels a little colder than the usual night. It is raining and stormy outside. I can see it from the inside of the house through the glass window in a dim road light. Turning my head to the left, I pick up an English Literature book from my bookshelf and sit down to a chair next to my study desk. I was thinking on reading it but then suddenly my mind flopped into what happened last week. I was playing football with my friends but I accidentally hit a girl on the head with the ball! It was kinda funny if you really look into it but I do not think so as I saw the girl’s face. Of course, she’s angry but somehow I can see sadness in her eyes. And..those round-big eyes looks really beautiful even if it’s dampen a little. It really strikes me. I feel like I’ve been paralyzed for a moment just by looking straight into her eyes. I can still remember it clearly. She dropped the ball and swiftly walked after I went to get the ball. I can’t even sincerely apologize to her. It makes me feel bad somehow. And so, I was curious about the girl since I have not seen her before. I’ve been asking around to get to know the red-haired girl. My friends told me that she had just come to the town. And what makes me feel really happy is that we are in the same high school but she is not in my class. Luckily her class was just across to mine and I’m thinking of trying to see her, but..I do not have the confident. Well, honestly I’ve been observing her since the last few days. Every morning when I came to the class I can see that she’s already in her classroom. It is still early and I wonder what time is she coming to the school. Sometimes I even peeked on her (a little)! NO! I’m not stalking! I just…want to know how she has been doing during the class period. She sits at the right back side of the class and always staring at the window near to her. It seems like she have been thinking on something. When the period time is over I see her going somewhere, alone..I feel like I really want to talk to her but…I can’t bring myself face-to-face against her. How coward I am. Even if I was looked up by my friends and teachers as a representative of my class, a captain on our school’s football team, and also as a school prefect. Yeah…I was generally a promising student but then when it comes to this...I can’t even talk to her directly in the eyes.

Only time could tell when I will be brave enough to confess my true feeling towards her……..

Part 3: Him…and Her…

It has been about for a month since she transferred here and I never talked to her even once after that incident. Up until now I still don’t have the confidence. But I feel happy for her because she got used to the surrounding and also made a few friends. I rarely see her going alone after class. But the boys are keeping on teasing her. I guess they liked her.

He grasps his hand tightly as he had a thought of that. They are calling her red-haired habanero lately. And of course Kushina will go for them and smashed them out.

“HUHHHHHHH….” He heavily sighed.

Suddenly he stands up, and walks out, passing Kushina’s classroom. It is a break time period and everybody is enjoying their time together but Minato had to go to staff’s room sending documents for their homeroom teacher. It was when he peeked a little at her when suddenly he caught her eyes glancing at him as he walks pass through the classes. He can feel his heart beating faster as he sees her directly into eyes. And so he walks faster but a black long-haired girl stopped him, giving him a note. That is when he saw Kushina walks passed beside him with some of her friends. She did not even look at him.

“Senpai, please meet up with me at the back of the school gate after school’s over. Onegaishimasu!”

“A confession huhh….” Said Minato as he read the note the girl had given to him. And so as the class period is over, he went to the back of the school gate. There, he saw a silhouette of the black long-haired girl standing near the big tall Sakura tree, waiting for him. She was cheerfully smiling while looking at him going closer to her.

“H-Hello..Minato-senpai! Thank you for coming all the way here. I-I..I have something to tell you. I-I….” The girl stuttered and looks nervous. Minato acts clueless and just standing quietly beside the girl.

“I-I….I’m in love with you!” She finally said it, out loud and clear. Minato was stunned for a moment. It’s not that he hasn’t got a confession before but this time this girl said it clearly and confidently.

Minato stare at the girl for a while and heavily sighed. “I’m sorry...but no..I can’t accept this...”

The girl looks at him earnestly and said, “…I’ll be the best girlfriend you ever had! I’ll do my best to be what you want me to be! I do whatever you say. And I promise to love you as long as I live! S-so..p-please…Just give me a chance.”

“No..I wouldn’t ask you to do so. It was too much even for me. It just that..I have someone that I like. I don’t want to get you disappointed but this is the truth. You should forget me and find someone else who is much better than me.” Minato replied to the girl.

The girl left after crying in front of Minato. It’s quite a while though. He feels sorry and guilty for her but he couldn’t give a false hope to the girl. He already made his mind, after he knows Kushina.

But, there’s one thing that he’ll never know. Kushina was there. She heard and saw everything, clearly.

He has a girl that he liked. Who might it be? Hmm..it doesn’t matter. I bet the girl is as arrogant as he. Kushina is talking to herself and pouting her mouth. She went to the riverside and sitting there, quietly. The riverside is the very first place she knew since she moved here and she was consistently went there whenever she got a chance.

She heard a lot about Minato.

Well, everyone’s only talks good things about him. She started to monologue.

So, who’s on earth didn’t know him? Besides, he is a man with a good-looking face and a good attitude. Most teachers have high expectation from him. And…of course, every girl admires him. Come on. Which girl will not fall for a man like him? O well. Who cares about him anyway? Why would I? Yeah..I shouldn’t even have a thought of him.

But her eyes are dampened. She’s lying to herself. She stood up, picked up a small stone and throws it far across the river. As she looks at the stone crossing above the water, she recalled the memory of when she first met with Minato. He was here, playing football with his friends. She purposely swiftly walked after she dropped the ball because she was nervous as Minato came to get the ball from her. She doesn’t know why and yeah..she haven’t talked to him after that incident even if they are attending the same high school. She caught back to reality as she heard the sound of the stone falling into the water. Just when she turns her back, she sees that man. Minato is watching her at a distance on the roadside across the river. But they both quickly change their eyes direction as their eyes met.

“My heart beating faster..what is this feeling..” Kushina folded her arms. She turns herself back looking at the riverside.

“She is stunning as ever. I can’t still look at her directly in eyes.” Minato quickly passed through.

Part 4: The Hidden Feeling

It was a very late in the evening when Kushina came back from school. She walked near the playground of the riverside, again. She stopped for a while suddenly thought of getting a view from the riverside just like the usual day so she walked down to hill but then she tripped and fall downside of the river.

Minato who was walking using the same road, see that incident in front of his eyes.

“Kushina…!!” He screamed out loud and went to the downhill to get her.

“Kushina, are you okay??” He asked.

“Oucchh…yeah….I’m okay..!” She replied but Minato can see that she tried her best to hide the pain that she felt. Her knee is bleeding but luckily it is not serious enough. Minato strip his inner shirts and wipe away the dirt and blood before getting a smaller piece of the cloth to wrap onto her kneels. Kushina is staring at him.

“Why are you here? And..How do you know my name?” 

She talks to me after a while.

“I was coincidentally passing through this road. I-I know your name from my friends..he’s one of your classmate.” 

He stuttered.

“Oo…” 

Kushina shortly reply. She stood up but then fall suddenly as she is unbalance. And she was falling on top of Minato’s body.

“Oo.I’m sorry!” 

She tried to stand but Minato’s holding her hands.

I can feel my heart’s beating faster. The blood suddenly rushes over my face. I can feel it burning. But I was determined. As she so close to me now I can’t let go this chance. 

“I-I..always wanted to hold u tightly in my arms….. “ 

Minato looks directly into Kushina eyes. He gently moves his hands to Kushina faces and grabbing her hair and put it at the back of her ears.

“Your hair is beautiful. I’ve never seen a girl like you..you took away my heart even at the very first day I met you…“ 

Minato continues.

But Kushina didn’t say a word. Suddenly her tears flow in her pinky cheeks. That’s when I realized that we were still laying and I caught up with reality.

“I’m sorry!” 

I quickly stood up and bring her stood up too.

“Kushina..?” 

Minato is a bit stuttered. The girl looks up with her beautiful dampened eyes.

She hasn’t said a word. Minato feels nervous and get embarrassed with himself, act foolishly like that.

“Aaa..I’m sorry..my tongue slipped through. Sorry about that. Just forget what I have said before..” 

He’s scratching his head.

“B-but…” 

Kushina looks like want to say something but Minato accidentally cut it off before she can finish it.

“Let me walk you off to your house.” 

Minato lead Kushina. So they both walking with each without any words until Kushina arrive at her house. That night Kushina can’t sleep because she’s thinking about Minato.

I wonder if he ever thought of me. But why didn’t I say anything to him? I was so stupid! I will never have a chance like this, ever again!

She’s crying until she falls asleep. However, Kushina and Minato has become a very good friend after the incident. They are always hanging out together and even went back home together. Kushina often went with Minato in the football practice or match. Since she is a little boyish so she loves the game and they both really goes well with each other. They have a lot of things they enjoy doing together. Their friends even label them as couple but of course they denied it. But there’s a feeling that hides deep inside both of them. The feeling only they knew. The feeling only time could tell when it would be told.

Part 5: I Love You..!

Today is the day! Minato is going to a college far away from the town. Kushina is actually sad about the news. Because they both will be apart from each other. They have promise to go to the same college but then they got offered from different college.

“Hey….what are you looking at..” 

Kushina said to Minato as she pokes him on his cheeks. Minato turn left and then grabbing her.

“Hey you..red-haired lady! I was waiting for you for almost an hour you know!” 

They laugh.

“Sorry…something suddenly turns up. Thought you have..already gone..” 

The happy tone from Kushina suddenly changed.

Minato let Kushina go from his grab as he walk forward to Kushina and look at her face to face.

“Are you sad because of me leaving you?” 

He asks.

“Me..? Hell no…why should I. I would be happy to be far away from you..Because there will be no one to…disturb me..no one will ever made me look like a fool and…” 

Minato cut her off with his fingers on her lip. Minato look her in her eyes and slowly lean forward and kiss on her forehead before hugging her tightly. She is stunned. She didn’t even move and speak a word.

“I promise to never forget you..” He said. A little bit stuttered in his voice. Kushina tried very hard to hold her tears from flowing up.

“Well, there you go…” 

Minato smile as he let go of Kushina.

“Don’t show me that gloomy face of yours. It’s ugly you know…” 

Minato said to Kushina as he laughing.

“Shut up you!” 

Kushina push Minato.

I knew you just want to make me feel better.

I don’t wanna see you cry as I left you here.

I  don’t want you to go far away from me.

I can never forget you. You are the one who always stays in my heart.

It’s the telepathic monologue within them as they stared at each other.

“Minato..!” 

They stuttered as someone calling on Minato.

“We need to go now…” 

His parents were waving at him. They are sending him to the college today.

“So..we’ll see each other again..I’ll email you..” 

Minato smile as she said that to Kushina.

“Umm..yeah…sure…” 

She shortly replied. Minato walks closer to Kushina and grab her shoulder.

“I’ll be going now…be good..and take care.” 

He said. Kushina nodded with a bitter smile on her face.

“Umm..Take this one with you.” 

She called on Minato as he walks. And so he left. Minato opens up a small note on the present Kushina give him.

I always love you…..

He smiled as he read the notes and suddenly ask his parents to stop. He walks out from the car and start running.

Is she still there? I hope she is. I have to tell that to her. 

Minato is determined.

“Kushina……!!” 

He shouted out loud. Kushina is still there. Sitting and looking at the riverside while she turn her back after hearing Minato called onto her.

“M-Minato?” 

She puzzle as she sees Minato running to the downhill, going closer to her. She stood up as soon as Minato is near her. Minato is staring deeply into her eyes before hugging her tightly in his arm. Kushina is still puzzled but didn’t resist it. Minato let Kushina go after a while but still holding on her shoulder.

“Kushina. Listen. I LOVE YOU. I always love you.” 

Their eyes met.

“W-what..? w-what did you say..” 

She asks again.

“I said…I love you, silly…” 

Minato smile and kiss on her on the lips. Kushina is stunned. And now she starts crying. But it’s the tears of joy.

“I’ve been waiting for you to say that.”

“Well..wait no more, my love.”
